A Husband-and-Wife Team Partner with SHARE! in Needed Areas

By: Sophie McEwen

A husband and wife who own two sober livings reached out to SHARE! because they were having trouble filling beds for their two homes and were impressed by SHARE!’s mission and Collaborative Housing program. The owners not only had wonderful taste and lovely homes, but they also believed in providing a safe and clean space for their residents. The wife, having had personal experience with family who struggled with addiction and mental health issues, wanted to continue to help others to grow and do her part to make a difference.

We spoke with them and realized that the potential homeowner very much aligned with our organization’s values and wanted to help the community open additional homes. We very quickly established a partnership with the couple, and we helped fill their existing beds.

Having started to build trust with the homeowners, we decided it was time to open a dedicated SHARE! Collaborative House in an area in desperate need of affordable living. The husband and wife took a leap of faith with SHARE! and bought a house in Winnetka. They furnished it and were able to open it in no time. Upon move-in, many residents have described the home as beautiful and tastefully furnished.

Our partnership with the husband-and-wife team has been so successful that we are now in the next phase with opening another home in Mid-City. There is also potential for more homes in the future and even a partnership to open more homes as SHARE! Recovery Retreats.

The relationship that SHARE! has built with the husband and wife has resulted in many people now having warm beds to sleep in at night, hot showers, and all the other amenities and comforts of a home. But most importantly, their residents now have peace of mind.
