Peer Drift is a common experience for Peers working in a clinic or other medical model settings. How do we protect our role as a Peer and prevent drifting into the clinicians lane, especially in an organization or program that operates in the medical model? This presentation will be an interactive opportunity for peers to share their experience, how they identify the Peer Drift and how they corrected it.
Following a career in Education and lived experience in both inpatient and outpatient mental health services, Ms. Healion has provided over 35 years of dedicated service to mental health, substance use, and trauma services. Since founding the one of the first Peer Run Agencies, she is now the Director of the Peer Bridger Program and a National Technical Assistance Provider with the Alliance for Rights and Recovery, working with peer groups, states, managed care, and psychiatric hospitals.

A Peer Housing Specialist details his first year working as a peer with lived experience in a professional setting, with strategies for professional development, challenges encountered, best practices and goal-setting. Learn approaches to support new peer staff.
Ammanuel is a Housing Navigation and Stability Specialist with the King County Regional Homelessness Authority. Ammanuel completed Peer Counseling Certification courses while living in Seattle's Union Gospel Mission Men's Shelter and completing the Men's Recovery Program there. He lived in the Men's Shelter there while working for KCRHA until able to purchase a first home. Ammanuel works with newly housed people on stabilization through the transition of being housed.

Dr. Kathy Cash, DDiv, CPSS, a US Army Veteran, recently retired from the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System where she was an integral part of the Peer Leadership Team.
Retaining Peer Specialists within mental health settings presents unique challenges due to the intersection of personal lived experiences, professional development needs, and organizational dynamics. This workshop aims to explore these challenges comprehensively and equip supervisors with effective strategies to improve retention rates among Peer Specialists.

Ehsan Gharadjedaghi, Psy.D. (Dr. G) received his Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology in 2009 at the American School for Professional Psychology, Orange County. He worked with at-risk youth on probation and high schoolers, HIV-affected populations, substance and sex addiction clients, trauma and domestic violence clients, elderly, and couples.

Supervision Training for More Peer-Friendly Workplaces, A Randomized Trial

This cluster-randomized trial evaluated a supervision training’s efficacy among peer support workers and their supervisors at 85 mental health services sites in California. The training increased the extent to which the sites provided an environment supportive of peer support workers, which improves worker retention.

Discussing a Peer Support Specialist Employment Rubric for Compensation & Benefits: Working Towards a Career Ladder

Participants have the opportunity to evaluate a peer support specialist employment rubric aimed at evaluating a peer professional’s qualifications for hiring, promotion, and wage/salary and employee benefits decisions. We will discuss benefits and limitations of using an employment rubric, considering the current state of the peer support profession and the recurring concerns of its workforce.
Becky Brasfield is an advocate for wellness and recovery, disability rights, and justice reform. In addition to being a Policy Researcher, Peer Support Specialist, and writer, Ms. Brasfield is a Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS). She currently works for Human Services Research Institute and Community Counseling Centers of Chicago.

Jordan Bouskos is the Assistant Coordinator for the WIG program. They currently work remotely for T-MHA as they are getting their Masters of Social Work in San Francisco. They primarily oversee the Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification arena of this grant-based program.

Bust myths surrounding unmanageable cluttering, sometimes referred to as "hoarding." Is recovery possible? Learn how to supervise the Peer workforce in inspiring hope and navigating challenges around disclosure, confidentiality and ethics.
Kimberly is Chair of the Orange County Task Force on Hoarding, a volunteer group that brings agencies and communities together to troubleshoot and share resources for hoarding situations. She is in the process of creating a nonprofit that would help the hoarding community. Kimberly is a Certified Peer Support Specialist with the State of California and works with Peer Voices of Los Angeles and Orange County as Director of Peer Support.

Passionate about empowering mothers in recovery from substance use disorders, she works to destigmatize their journey. Mayra Corral is Workforce Development Program Manager at CalMHSA, where she primarily oversees certification and application processes for the Medi-Cal Certified Peer Support Specialist Program.
